Update for Thanksgiving

Hello all,

I've been delinquent in my posts here, but only because we've been so busy in the Lower School computer lab teaching and learning from one another.

Fourth graders spent the past few class periods learning about constellations and creating very nice single page hand-drawn and -written descriptions of individual ones to share with one another. We'll use these as foundation for the PowerPoint work we'll do after Thanksgiving!

Third graders finished their introduction to Keyboarding for Kids and will be moving on to new fun things as they explore Westward Expansion, in the course discovering some fantastic reading--first person narratives and diaries from the pioneers themselves.

Second graders worked with Type to Learn 3 and this week spent some "down time" at UpToTen.com's new Premium@School site. We've been visiting Boowa and Kwala for a couple years now and they enjoyed seeing what's become of them since last year. Watch for fun news about the Medieval unit soon!

First graders and Kindergarteners continue to explore that UpToTenPremium@School offering, working these past several weeks through some challenging "Spot the Difference" activities to "Shapes and Shadows." We'll be flexing our Drawing for Children muscles in the coming weeks.

I should also mention at this juncture that my "other job," Teacher-in-residence at the Vanderbilt Center for Science Outreach has taken in interesting turn: I'm hosting a weekly podcast called Snacks4theBrain!, which details the work the Center does in a very brief 10 minute or-so Internet radio show. Visit it and let me know what you think!

Cheers,
Mr. M.
